Enhancing Digital Learning By Using Google Chrome Apps & Extensions
Good pedagogy, creating opportunities for higher order thinking and strong learning outcomes should all lay the foundation for tech integration. Digital Learning should allow students to fully engage with a learning task in order to deepen their understanding of the key concepts. Google Chrome is a powerful browser with a wealth of apps and extensions to truly enhance teaching and learning.

In this workshop, after a brief overview, you will engage in a very practical, hands on, learning by doing session and create a learning task that you will be able to use in an upcoming lesson.

You will choose to focus on 1 of the following:
a) create a flipped lesson using either Edpuzzle or Zaption
b) create an interactive, multimodal, learner paced lesson using either Tackk and Canva or Versal
c) create an AFL task using either Quizlet, Go Conqr or Socrative
d) create a video using Powtoon or an infographic using Piktochart
e) create word clouds, mind maps, set SMARTER learning goals, collaborate on a virtual notice board using Tagcloud, LucidChart, LucidPress, Wunderlist and Padlet

This workshop would be suitable for
: any educators who want to learn more about any of the above Google Chrome apps and extensions through an opportunity to create a resource to take away and use immediately.

You will need to bring:
a) your laptop,
b) an idea or 2 for an upcoming lesson, a lesson plan that you would like to teach differently by integrating some tech to enhance it

BFF with Google Classroom
Blended, Flipped and Fully Online with Google Classroom.

So often teaching is restricted to meet the curricula and exam preparation. Students often pose this question "How is this related to the REAL WORLD?". The truth is most stuff is related to the real world, it's just that textbooks nor teachers have the time to get into this. With and App like, GC, it so easy to set up short lessons or golden nuggets that kids can explore on their own. Or even run short courses that are not in the curricula but knowledge that is absolutely required in the real world.

Using Google Sheets for AfL
Google sheets used in conjunction with Google classroom can give incredible, bespoke feedback to students and teachers about students’ progress. They key comes from linking sheets together and using suitable queries. This session looks at both the teaching and learning aspects of using sheets and the technical skills involved. The three main uses of sheets we will cover are:

  • Firstly, use as a bespoke, interactive AfL tool that can be saturated with links and resources to help students both identify what they need to learn and also how to learn it independently.
    • e.g. An interactive revision checklist.
  • Secondly, as a tool for teachers to get instant, live feedback on the progress of students in their class.
    • e.g. A class overview sheet of a test.
  • Finally, I will look at the incredible live data analysis that faculty leaders can get from whole cohorts.
    • e.g. Mock exam analysis.

Both beginners and advanced users will be welcome at this session. There will be resources to help develop basic spreadsheet use right up to how to set up sheet structures and functions such as =importrange(), =query() and =vlookup(). Either way you should come away with plenty of things to think about.

Tour Builder as Mapping Tool
Google Tour Builder is an online, free, storytelling and mapping tool which allows students to create and share information about places around the world. Using Google maps students can create a ‘tour’ of a series of places regarding a chosen subject. Students can integrate photos, text and videos into each chosen location (shown by a dropped pin). Once edited students can ‘play’ their mapping tour for an audience, and the tour will move users and viewers from location to location. The ease of use for tour builder makes it an ideal starting place for younger students to learn about not only geographic information systems but computer mapping systems, collecting and recording data and interpreting it to make generalisations. Here's a link to my presentation: bit.ly/Tina_TourBuilder.
