A Whole New World
It’s important that students are able to see the world that lies beyond their backyards. However, we can’t just pack our students on a plane and take them on a new adventure in a moment’s notice. Using Google Maps, Geoguessr, and taking a look thru Google Cardboard we’ll be taking a deeper look at how we can show students a whole new world, that exists right at their fingertips.

BFF with Google Classroom
Blended, Flipped and Fully Online with Google Classroom.

So often teaching is restricted to meet the curricula and exam preparation. Students often pose this question "How is this related to the REAL WORLD?". The truth is most stuff is related to the real world, it's just that textbooks nor teachers have the time to get into this. With and App like, GC, it so easy to set up short lessons or golden nuggets that kids can explore on their own. Or even run short courses that are not in the curricula but knowledge that is absolutely required in the real world.

Using Google Sheets for AfL
Google sheets used in conjunction with Google classroom can give incredible, bespoke feedback to students and teachers about students’ progress. They key comes from linking sheets together and using suitable queries. This session looks at both the teaching and learning aspects of using sheets and the technical skills involved. The three main uses of sheets we will cover are:

  • Firstly, use as a bespoke, interactive AfL tool that can be saturated with links and resources to help students both identify what they need to learn and also how to learn it independently.
    • e.g. An interactive revision checklist.
  • Secondly, as a tool for teachers to get instant, live feedback on the progress of students in their class.
    • e.g. A class overview sheet of a test.
  • Finally, I will look at the incredible live data analysis that faculty leaders can get from whole cohorts.
    • e.g. Mock exam analysis.

Both beginners and advanced users will be welcome at this session. There will be resources to help develop basic spreadsheet use right up to how to set up sheet structures and functions such as =importrange(), =query() and =vlookup(). Either way you should come away with plenty of things to think about.

Simplify your classroom with Google Photos
Google Photos isn't just another photo app or photo system. Sure lots of other programs, Apps and Websites can already do much of what Google Photos does. What Google photos does is simplify using photos while tapping into Google's connectivity to embed Photos in the GAFE suite.

Automate the uploading of photos and video (no more cables), sort them into albums, share them instantly and easily insert them into any Google product. Create great looking stories, videos and animations with a few simple clicks.

Google Photos has completely changed how we use photos at IGBIS. Most of all it has saved teachers and teacher assistants a lot of time while allowing them to make excellent websites, slideshow, documents and presentations.

Even though we are just starting to open up the possibilities of Google Photos we are using it in lots of creative and clever ways. Come and get hands on in how we tap into the connectedness of Google to reduce our workload and automate lots of the tedious jobs that are usually necessary to use digital media across a school or in a classroom.
